The inevitable rise of increasing storage capacities continues as SanDisk has just announced the world’s fastest 1TB microSD card.

During MWC (Mobile World Congress) on Monday, both Micron and Western Digital’s brand SanDisk launched UHS-I microSDXC cards which can hold an entire terabyte of data on.

Shortly after Micron claimed the spot as the first brand to release a 1TB microSD card, SanDisk followed suit but alternatively took the spot for the fastest 1TB microSD currently available on the market. The brand is listing a performance advantage by demonstrating read speeds of up to 160MB/s, compared to Microns at 100MB/s.

Reaching read and write speeds of up to 160MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively, the 1TB SanDisk Extreme microSD will allow users to transfer content in almost half the time over regular UHS-I microSD cards.

The new card will also be available in a capacity of 512GB and will feature the A2 specification for super-fast loading of apps. Wondering what A2 specification means? Check out our blog post – here. In addition to this, the new card is designed to withstand shock, extreme temperatures, moisture and X-rays as a result of being part of the SanDisk Extreme line.

Intended to expand the memory of a smartphone or to handle large files in action cameras and drones, the new speeds will ensure users can reliably create and capture high-quality content without having to worry about lack of space or long transfer speeds.

Demonstrated during Mobile World Congress this week in Barcelona, it is clear that the storage capacity of high-end smartphones is continually increasing, with the likes of Samsung’s S10 Plus flagship comprising of 1TB of internal storage. While this is rising, it’s important for high capacity and high-speed microSD cards to be available for those who want to expand the storage capacity in lower-cost devices without having to compromise on speed.

In a press release, director of marketing for SanDisk-branded products, Brian Pridgeon, said:

“People trust SanDisk-brand cards to capture and preserve their world. Our goal is to deliver the best possible experience so consumers can share the content that’s important to them.”

The 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSD card will be available soon from MyMemory, so be sure to head to our website now to be notified as soon as stock drops.
