At CES 2019, SanDisk has revealed a prototype of an absolutely huge 4TB USB-C Flash Drive. Stating that it is the world’s highest capacity USB Flash Drive, SanDisk has unveiled a compact device that’s small enough to fit into your pocket.
The product features an integrated USB-C cable, which perhaps could classify it as an ‘extremely small SSD’, rather than a ‘very large flash drive’. Still, a flash drive packed with 4TB of storage is pretty impressive if you ask us!
It is clear that this prototype is intended to showcase the technological progress of SanDisk’s storage solutions.
AnandTech thinks that the USB-C flash drive could perhaps be using the 1.33Tb QLC 96L NAND that the company started to sample back in 2018.
Currently, the Flash Drive doesn’t have a name, or moreover any specifications on the release date or the price, and therefore, is not yet for ready for sale. As you can imagine, a whopping 4TB USB-sized flash drive would excessively be more expensive, nevertheless, this new model displays huge advances in storage technology.
As well as showing off this prototype, SanDisk has also launched a bunch of new external storage devices. Including the SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD and, under its Western Digital Brand, a new My Passport Go.
SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD:
In accordance with the brand, the new SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD has the ability to offer up to 1GBps in transfer speeds and contains IP55-rated durability.
Alongside coming with a USB 3.1 Gen Type-C interface, the portable Pro SSD will include a Type-A adapter. Planned to be released in spring of this year, the device will be available in capacities of up to 500GB, 1TB and 2TB.
Gadgets 360 have stated that the compact portable SSD will measure at just 112x58x11.5mm and will be shock and vibration-resistant.
Western Digital My Passport Go:
Under the Western Digital brand, the company is launching a new My Passport Go.
This rugged portable storage device with a USB 3.0 interface, has a shock-absorbing rubber bumper, making it drop-resistant of up to 2 meters. In addition to this, the My Passport Go features a built-in cable and can deliver SSD performance of up to 400MB/s, making it 2.5x faster than most portable hard drives. It will be available to buy in capacities of up to 500GB and 1TB.
