What kind of battery is recommended for a digital camera?
We recommend rechargeable batteries for your digital camera. If you can, opt for NiMH (nickel metal-hydride) batteries, as these have more power and are safer for the environment. They also have a number of technical advantages over other types of camera battery. Another good option is Li-Ion (lithium-ion) batteries, as these last for 100-200 shots.
If you do choose a non-rechargeable option, lithium batteries are a good choice as they tend to last longer than other types and are better at handling cold weather.
How long do rechargeable camera batteries last?
Rechargeable batteries tend to last for around two or three years (or 500-1000 charges), provided they are properly cared for through the following practices:
- Using and charging your battery regularly
- Keeping them safe from accidents, such as dropping incidents
- Storing them in a cool, dry place
How can I make my camera battery last longer?
There are a number of ways in which you can save battery power so that it lasts longer. These include:
- Deleting pictures from your computer rather than from your device - removing photos directly from your camera’s memory card can drain battery life.
- Avoiding cooler temperatures - batteries tend to drain faster when they are exposed to cold temperatures.
- Turning down the brightness on your camera’s LCD screen - this can save you a decent amount of battery power.
