The Best Micro SD Cards for Your Dash Cam 2020

8

Are you looking for the best memory cards to keep your dash cam running in 2020? Then look no further.

A dash cam is a digital video camera that mounts to the dashboard and records your journey whenever the car is turned on our moving. It can also be a crucial tool for ensuring safety on the road and speed up proceedings with the courts and insurance companies in case of an accident.

There’s never been a better time to buy a dash cam, not just for legal and insurance reasons, but also for peace of mind. Many insurance companies are reporting an increase in ‘cash for crash’ scams, or when a fraudulent motorist deliberately slams on their brakes to make the car behind run into the back of them.

Most car dash cameras use similar technology and are usually mounted somewhere on the front windscreen, or windshield. Extra features can include multiple lenses, improved sensor and image quality, built-in Wi-Fi and time-lapse features.

How to choose the correct memory card for your dash cam:

When looking for a memory card that best suits your dash cam, there are a number of specs you should factor in. You’re ideally looking for a microSD card with enough capacity to record a whole day worth of video (minimum). Thus, we recommend choosing a microSD card from 32GB to 128GB.

Read and write speeds are also vitally important as you don’t want the feed to be corrupt when/if showing it to your insurance policies.

However, it’s important to note that not every microSD card will work well with your dash cam model. For example, your dash cam may only support a microSD up to 64GB in capacity, so it’s worth checking on the manufacturer’s website or in the user manual if you are unsure.

To make life a little easier and to ensure your camera reaches its full potential, we have rounded up the best microSD cards to suit a variety of dash cams below:

  1. Hi,

It seems you are missing out on a crucial factor here.

Many manufacturers specifically state that they will not honor warranty is their cards are used for surveillance / monitoring so even if your warranty period is long, they wont entertain you.

What we need to look out for are cards made specifically for that purpose, an example being the Sandisk Endurance cards (since this seems to be the only endurance card available in my country).
