The Best Micro SD Cards for Your Dash Cam 2019

Looking for the best memory cards to keep your dash cam running? Then look no further.

A dashcam is a digital video camera that mounts to the dashboard and records your journey whenever the car is turned on and moving. It can also be a crucial tool for ensuring safety on the road and speed up proceedings with the courts and insurance companies in case of an accident.

There’s never been a better time to buy a dash cam, not just for legal and insurance reasons, but also for peace of mind. Many insurance companies are reporting an increase in ‘cash for crash’ scams, or when a fraudulent motorist deliberately slams on their brakes to make the car behind run into the back of them.

Most dash cams use similar camera technology and are usually mounted somewhere on the front windscreen, or windshield. There are also dash cams that boast additional features that, characteristically, see the price increase.

These extra features can include multiple lenses for front and rear-facing coverage, improved sensor and image quality, night vision, built-in Wi-Fi for easy file transfer and numerous parking modes that use a time-lapse feature as a surveillance function to capture details of those irksome car park prangs when the owner is off shopping.

Choosing the correct memory card for your dash cam:

When looking for a microSD card that best suits your dash cam, there are a number of specs you should factor in. You’re ideally looking for a microSD with enough capacity to record a whole day worth of video (minimum). We recommend choosing a microSD card from 32GB to 128GB.

Read/write speeds are also vitally important as you don’t want the feed to be corrupt when/if showing it to your insurance providers.

However, it’s important to note that not every microSD on the market will work well with your dash cam model. For example, your dash cam may only support a microSD up to 64GB in capacity, so it’s worth checking on the manufacturer’s website or in the user manual if you are unsure.

To make life a little easier and to ensure you make the most out of your device, we have rounded up a short list of the best microSD cards to suit a variety of dash cams. Check them out below:

  1. Hi,

It seems you are missing out on a crucial factor here.

Many manufacturers specifically state that they will not honor warranty is their cards are used for surveillance / monitoring so even if your warranty period is long, they wont entertain you.

What we need to look out for are cards made specifically for that purpose, an example being the Sandisk Endurance cards (since this seems to be the only endurance card available in my country).
