If you’ve been living under a rock, you won’t be aware that the latest technology driven trend is to have a smart home, which is also known as an “automated home”. But what exactly does this mean?
Well, firstly, what sets a smart home apart from other homes is that the appliances and devices throughout the house are connected and controlled from a central device. Climate control, lights, appliances, locks, and different types of cameras and monitors can all be added to a home automation system and controlled from anywhere in the house or, more conveniently, from afar.
What do I need to do to have a Smart Home?
This is all doable through an appliance called a smart plug. With a smart plug you can set schedules for your appliances, so that certain things will happen at specific times of day, and some appliances will even learn your schedule and activities so that the amount of effort you have to put toward managing your home is drastically reduced.
There is a bunch of different ‘smart’ appliances that you could fit into your home to get the most out of automating your home, such as doorbells, lightbulb and switches to name a few, but today i’ll be focussing on plugs.
What is a Smart Plug?
A smart plug is a device that plugs right into an ordinary outlet. The device itself has its own outlet, so in a sense it’s like an outlet extension. Instead of plugging your lamp into the wall, you’d plug it into the smart plug, which is itself plugged into the wall. But best of all, it’s all controlled by you, whenever you need, through your smart phone or tablet.
