The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is one heck of a nice upgrade from the Canon 5D MK III. It has an improved sensor of 30.4 megapixel CMOS sensor with a Digic 6+ processor and 4K video at 23.98, 24, 25 and 30 fps. It also has a 61-point autofocus system.

With an improved sensor and processor, this camera will need some heavyweight memory cards to handle all that data.

We have put together a list of the top five memory cards that will get the best from the Canon 5D Mark IV. As the camera has dual card capabilities, we have created a list of the five best SD and Best Compact Flash cards currently available.

First are the five best SDXC cards. It is worth noting that the 5D Mark IV only fully supports the UHS-I card. You can use UHS-II SDXC cards but unfortunately, you will not be able to realise the full potential of these cards with the Mark IV. With that said we have only highlighted the UHS-I cards. So read on to discover the best memory card for Canon 5D Mark IV.

  1. This was useful, thank you!

  2. It would be nice to know how many minutes of 4K footage each card can hold

    1. 256 GB gives you around an hour of 4K video. 128 GB half an hour, 64 GB 15 minutes, 32 GB 7-8 minutes.

Files are HUGE, but the quality and edit-friendleyness are worth it. Hard drive space are cheap today.
Remember, you get up to 30 JPEG files at 4096*2180 pixel – almost 9 Mpix – A SECOND. That is a high burst-rate for an hour. Remember that every single frame of a MJPEG video is a JPEG picture. If you shoot action photos, try grapping a still from the video-file. You can shoot video at all shutter-speeds, it doesn’t look nice as video if you go over 280 degree shutter speed, but you can get “that shot” 🙂

      1. 180 degree shutter, not 280!

  3. I’ve heard that CF cards are recommended when it comes to 4K filming on a Canon 5D Mark IV. I like Sandisk Extreme Pro memory cards, having used them for years with no issue. So, I am looking at the Extreme Pro 160MB/s CF card for 4K filming on this camera. However, on paper at least, the Extreme Pro 170MB/s SDXC card appears to have better speeds, and so it may be even more suitable for 4K filming on a Canon 5D Mark IV. What are people’s thoughts?
