Cnet recently reported that a new generation of high capacity optical disk is in development to put 4K movies on your shelf.

“Sony and Panasonic plan to release discs that store 300GB or more by the end of 2015. That’s a six-fold increase on current Blu-ray platters, which max out at 50GB — enough for a high definition movie, but not for the 4K future”.

Sony currently has a number of films out and in development for 4K (which is 4 times higher definition than ‘HD’) including Ghostbusters, Taxi Driver and two Spider-Man movies!

But are optical disks still relevant? Do you still buy DVD or Blu-ray in the ‘age of streaming’? Let us know over on our Facebook page!
