OCZ reveals new SSD drive

OCZ reveals new SSD drive29 October 2010 15:35:22

A new high-performance solid-state drive (SSD) has been unveiled by OCZ Technology.

Called the RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD, it is a follow up to the RevoDrive, with increased performance and capacity, aimed at high-performance computing consumers.

"Building on the success of the original design, we are excited to introduce the RevoDrive X2, which delivers both increased performance and capacity, making the RevoDrive X2 a viable option for a wide spectrum of applications that include professional graphic design, multimedia rendering, and workstations," said Ryan Petersen, chief executive of OCZ.

The new SSD can deliver speeds of up to 740MB/sec and up to 120,000 IOPS, nearly triple the throughput of other high-end SATA-based drives, as it replaces the typical SATA II format with a PCIe x4 interface.

It is available in capacities from 100GB to a massive 960GB.

OCZ recently announced it is to open a new SSD manufacturing plant in Taiwan in order to meet growing demand.ADNFCR-2752-ID-800202915-ADNFCR

Flying cadets get first taste of acrobatics

Flying cadets get first taste of acrobatics29 October 2010 15:28:57

Flying experiences such as acrobatics and hot air balloon rides make great gift ideas for a birthday or Christmas.

One group of air cadets from Cambridgeshire got their first taste of aerobatics this week when they took to the skies for the first time after completing their training.

Sophie Radley, Kamilla Lasocka, Matt Wilson, Jacob Troughton and Katie Dickson flew in the RAF's primary trainer, the Grob 115 Tutor, at RAF Wyton, reports the Cambs Times.

The members of March 1220 squadron learnt the plane's controls and got to take over for some basic flight training.

Some also got to experience some thrilling aerobatics.

Cadet Katie Dickson, told the news provider: "It was so good and I can’t wait to go out again. I really enjoyed learning aerobatics above the town."

Other flying experiences that could be good gift ideas include helicopter lessons and experiencing flights in vintage planes. ADNFCR-2752-ID-800202888-ADNFCR

Catherine Zeta-Jones taking up golf

Welsh movie star Catherine Zeta-Jones has revealed she is a fan of golf, describing it as having a "Zen quality".

It may inspire others to try the sport or to buy a golf trip as a gift for a loved one for a birthday or Christmas.

The 41-year-old has been playing at a celebrity golf tournament in China this week.

"There's nothing better than just having nothing else to focus on than a still white ball," she told Agence France Presse.

"I find it very therapeutic, and even if you can't hit the ball that particular day, there's a privacy and a kind of Zen quality to golf that I love.

"There's a wonderful solace of being out there on the beautiful (golf) course."

Other hobbies could also help inspire gift ideas with a range of experiences available to buy.

These could include football stadium tours, a day at the races or an arts and crafts course.ADNFCR-2752-ID-800202877-ADNFCR
