The new Sanyo Xacti range of camcorders has now launched in the UK with three world firsts in HD Digital Camcorders

Sanyo’s new VCP-HD2000 will be the first camcorder to shoot full HD video in progressive format and at 60fps. It’s a slick pistol-grip camcorder, and also boasts 16x zoom.

Then there’s the DMX-CA9 and DMX-WH1, which Sanyo says are the world’s first waterproof HD cameras, and also pack in a whopping 30x zoom.

Lastly, there’s the DMX-CG10. Sanyo says it’s the first camcorder to shoot HD video and 10 megapixel still shots.

Universal Charging Solution for Mobile27 February 2009 14:50:08

The GSMA and leading mobile operators and manufacturers have announced that Micro USB is to become the official standardised connection for mobile phone chargers.

The aim is to ensure that the mobile industry adopts a common format for mobile phone charger connections and energy-efficient chargers resulting in an estimated 50 per cent reduction in standby energy consumption, the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers and the enhancement of the customer experience by simplifying the charging of mobile phones.

A universal charger will also make life much simpler for the consumer, who will be able to use the same charger for future handsets, as well as being able to charge their mobile phone anywhere from any available charger.

The group agreed that by the 1st January 2012, the majority of all new mobile phone models available will support a universal charging connector.

So far 17 manufacturers have signed up to the agreement. These include Motorola, Samsung Sony Ericsson and Nokia.
