iPad sees launch of App only newspaper19 September 2011 13:51:19
Apple's iPad has seen the launch of a new generation of newspaper.
The Daily is News Corporation's first stand alone app publication. The app describes itself as "a US-based publication that covers events around the world" and has been available in the US for seven months but launched last week in the UK.
Prices for the app are either 69p a day or £27.99 for the year and The Daily allows users to browse regular newspaper topics such as news, business, gossip, opinion and technology.
So far, some British users are slightly dismayed with the App's US-centric perspective. A sample comment said: "I agree its [sic] a great looking app, but why would anyone in the UK want to read American news, politics and sport?"
Outgoing Apple chief executive Steve Jobs recently stated there are over four billion apps downloaded worldwide.
Although The Daily is only currently available on Apple devices, Rupert Murdoch has confirmed that it will be available on all major tablets.
