SD card readers 'one of the most vital gadgets'22 November 2011 16:43:10

The proliferation of SD cards and micro SD cards means that a USB reader is a must-have computer accessory.

This is according to the Jakarta Post, which included the computer peripheral in a list of the most important gadgets for the modern world.

Many devices which are integral to current lifestyles rely on various types of memory cards for their storage needs, so backing up the data - whether it be contacts from a phone, precious photos from a digital camera or music from an MP3 player – on these cards can be comforting if the gadgets are lost.

The publication stated that SD card owners should choose a USB reader which can accommodate several different varieties of memory media, but said the most popular products were "Secure Digital (SD), Micro SD, Memory Stick Pro Duo, M2, Compact Flash and xD" cards.

According to the SD Association, some SD cards can store over 12,320 photographs.
