Hey Big Spender! 27 May 2011 14:15:25
Paying for things is about to get a whole lot more exciting! Google recently announced the latest innovation in, well, paying for things. Fittingly named Google Wallet, this new innovation will allow consumers to pay at enabled hotspots using their smartphone.
Not only will Google Wallet allow consumers to pay for their groceries, it will also help save money by allowing consumers to download coupons from sister site Google Offers. And as if that wasn't enough Google Wallet will also allow you to virtually store your loyalty cards, allowing you to continue earning rewards from participating SingleTap merchants.
'But what if I lose my phone, or worse?' - Google have this covered too with a host of security features designed to keep your 'wallet' safe, including a Google Wallet PIN and a dedicated in-phone chip called The Secure Element, which is separate to your smartphones chip and dedicated to running Google Wallet related programs and storing secure data.
In their official blog post Google even go on to hint that this is just the beginning! "Someday, even things like boarding passes, tickets, ID and keys could be stored in Google Wallet".
Although only available to the Nexus S 4G on Sprint, a US-only phone, Google plan on supporting more phones and more networks globally in the near future.
