OCZ to focus on SSD production13 January 2011 15:33:32
Memory product specialist OCZ has announced it is to quit the DRAM memory market to focus on solid state drives (SSDs).
Announcing its third quarter results, the firm said it would "accelerate" plans to suspend its DRAM operations due to a lack of profitability.
"The board has determined that it is in the best interests of the stockholders to accelerate plans to discontinue its remaining DRAM module products by the end of its current fiscal year of February 28th, 2011," the company said.
"Accordingly, our DRAM products are now expected to have minimal, if any, sales in the next fiscal year and beyond."
Instead, it will put all its efforts into producing SSDs, which are enjoying much stronger sales figures.
"We have a lot of resources placed on the development, manufacturing and deployment of our solid state drives and are able to innovate and add value in this product category," it said.
OCZ unveiled a number of new SSDs at the recent Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.
