Cannon Fodder 3 announced for PC and Xbox 36019 January 2011 15:34:15

A long-awaited update to the classic Cannon Fodder series is in development, it has been announced.

Developer GFI, under licence from Codemasters, has revealed it is working on Cannon Fodder 3 for the PC and Xbox 360.

The original Cannon Fodder was released in 1993 and quickly developed a large following.

It saw players take control of a squad of soldiers to complete light-hearted combat missions.

A sequel was released the following year while a 3D update for the PS2 was planned but subsequently cancelled.

GFI says the plot of the new game sees a military alliance between groups in Europe, Asia and Africa attempting to establish a dictatorship that the player must prevent at any cost.

It says it will feature "classic isometric environment in full 3D, weather effects, change of time, destructible environment [and] physical water".

There is no indication yet as to when the game will be available or whether it will be a full release or download.
