Samsung to release enterprise SSD range21 December 2010 15:32:44
A new SSD range designed for use by other enterprises is to be released by Samsung, the electronics giant has announced.
It is hoping to launch the range in January with models available in capacities of 100GB, 200GB and 400GB.
Samsung said the primary target for the new SSDs would be in large servers of companies looking to improve their green credentials.
"As more and more server makers are adopting SSDs for use in eco-friendly platforms that consume less electrical power, the need for high-density SSDs in the server market is growing rapidly," said Byungse So, senior vice president at Samsung.
The new SSDs, which use a multi-level-cell design, have a 150 times higher IOPS/Watt rate compared to standard hard drives, meaning they can process 150 times more data while consuming the same amount of energy.
Last month, Samsung unveiled a new SSD, targeted at those using corporate PCs or laptops, featuring built-in encryption software to protect sensitive data.
