The second oldest Hollywood studio, Universal Pictures were founded in 1912 by a shop store owner in Wisconsin, who was fascinated by the potential draw of the NIckelodeons of the time. Universal grew into one of the most successful Hollywood corporations, producing Hitchcock classics such as Psycho and The Birds, and more recently producing blockbusters from Gladiator to The Bourne trilogy.
